Nurse Anesthetist is an RN who has gone on to advanced training and certification to administer and manage anesthesia. As for enumerating the different kinds of nurses, that's like asking for a complete list of all the different kinds of trees in the world. Too many permutations to enumerate. They all start out as RN's, and then go on and take additional training and schooling to specialties. Med-Surg, Orthopedics, Cardiac, Anesthesia, Neurology, Emergency, Pediatrics, Psychiatric, Renal, Pulmonary, Ophthalmology, Dermatology, Critical Care, Surgery, the list goes on and on and on and on.

A nurse anesthetist is a nurse who has gone through advanced training, and received a Master's degree.

It is considered an Advanced-practice Nursing position.

I believe it will be switching to a Doctoral-level program in the near future.
