can pre-/med/health students give me some advice on how to perform simple surgery on the bottom of my foot?

hey guys,

i am a pre-med student and am very comfortable with doing this myself.

it all happend when i stepped on a piece of glass and it was too deep to get it out, and i was too lazy to scrape around it with a tweezers to pull it out. well now the skin has fully healed over, and it's very painful to walk on it. i really need it taken out.

it seems so simple, so i'm not going to a doctor. my main question is how can i anesthetize the area (which is distal to the the bottom of my foot)? it doesn't have to be completely numb, i can handle some pain, but are there any home remedies that can anesthetic properties?

any other tips and suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Wow !

If this is a legitimate question [and I have seen many a Q on YA that is very detailed and serious sounding but is actually a hoax !] then don't be a wuss.

I have looked after many a patient who has had fragments of glass caught underneath their skin from car crashes and the like. For some reason these things don't get infected, at least the ones that I have come across. But they all eventually make their way to the surface and pop out for the patient to keep in a specimen jar. If it hurts, pad the surrounding area only, while wearing shoes - this may even aid its escape from your sweaty foot.

If it is really too much to bare then make an appointment - I can see you Monday afternoon. I love doing stuff like that.

first off, Pre-meds know jack about medicine or surgery. They don't teach that stuff in Organic chemistry.

Second, distal to the foot are your toes.

Third, you'll get laughed at calling them tweezers in a medical setting.

Finally, Go see your doctor. I'm not advising you to mutilate your foot. Leave it to a professional.

Trying to do "surgery" on yourself is a great way to lose your foot. Being pre-med does not mean that you can do these things, nor does it mean you know your medicine yet. Trust me on this one, I was the same way. Go to your podiatrist, they'll get it done for you quickly, neatly, and in a sterile environment. Don't risk infection or nerve damage.

And yes the above poster is correct, distal to the sole of your foot is your toes. You mean superficial.

Go to the hospital as it could become infected. If you knew anything about medicine then you would realize that it could become septic which may lead to amputation or death
